Give !

Begfest is pleased to donate all its proceeds to worthy causes.  In most cases these are charities that reflect events that have affected Begfesters over the years.

Our Begfest 2018 charities were:

Teenage Cancer Trust

https://www.teenagecancertrust.org

Teenage Cancer Trust – this was the second year we gave their quest, to ensure every child with cancer across our region receives specialised nursing care and support, our backing.

The OLLIE Foundation

In 2016, three parents who had all lost their teenage sons to suicide, vowed to do all they could to prevent other families suffering similar tragedies. And so The OLLIE Foundation was born.
The OLLIE Foundation (One Life Lost is Enough) is a registered charity funding suicide intervention skills training for adults working with young people. This training enables professionals to identify warning signs and provide a pathway to help combat suicidal thoughts.

Big Journeys Begin With Small Steps

This is a very small local charity, begun eight years ago by Alison Watson, whose fourth child, Freya, was born with Down syndrome. Big Journeys Begin With Small Steps (Small Steps in short) now provides support to 40 local families and continues to grow.  Alison says “I want families to embrace and not fear Down syndrome. I want them to know and understand it’s not something to dread, be sad about or feel it’s end of the world kinda thing – something that society has led us to believe… it’s a beautiful journey. Not the one you expect when you’re expecting…. but one that is a million times more rewarding.”  The money BEGFEST raised went towards providing a specialist occupational therapist to come to Small Steps to help children cope with their sensory needs and helped pay for all the children and their siblings, parents and carers to enjoy a special day out without worrying about cost.
